Yellowstone Steam
Fumaroles, or steam vents, are hot springs with a lot of heat, but so little water that it all boils away before reaching the surface. At places like Roaring Mountain, the result is a loud hissing vent of steam and gases. At this location the steam was coming from behind the trees creating a unique backdrop with the dark blue sky above.

Winter Light
On this early morning in Yellowstone National Park, with the temperature at 12 degrees below zero, a beautiful dark blue sky that seems to make the light blue, I came upon this two tree combination that looked to be frozen. I love the way the snow sticks to the trees, as white on blue has a wonderful contrast effect. Yellowstone in the dead of winter shows fascinating drama this day, as the wind is still, and steam seems to be rising everywhere, not a cloud to be seen. Yellowstone is truly a treasure that I am lucky to see. Thank you for your comments!
